With the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project going to take off
shortly, the following projects should be completed
simultaneously:
Air link: Tuticorin airport should become operational
with connections to Kochi, Chennai, and Bangalore via Madurai.
Rail link: A new 125-Km broad gauge line between
Manamadurai and Tuticorin must be laid to enable a short route
between Bangalore and Tuticorin via Salem, Karur, Tiruchi and
Manamadurai. To facilitate access to Mangalore and Mumbai ports
from Tuticorin through Kondan Railway, the metre gauge line
between Dindugul and Palakkad via Pollachi, Pollachi and
Coimbatore should be converted into BG line.
Road link: As the control office for Sethu project is
to be located at Rameswaram, the road link between Rameshwaram
and Tuticorin is very essential. This stretch of East Coast Road
should be completed on a war footing.
