Project Implementation
Schedule
The
Sethusamudram Ship Channel is proposed to be developed by a
special purpose Vehicle (SPV) formed for this.
The
entire construction (Including Captial dredging) would be through
EPC contracts. For timely completion of a large project
like this, planning and implementation of various modules is
important.
The
implementation schedule is prepared and presented in the
Figure. Thus development is further divided into the
following activities.

Dreding
is the major activity in the development of the Channel,
which is critical. In this immplementation schedule, it
is assumed that the whole of the dredging work will be carried
out as a single contract with 2 fronts. But this can be
split up into two separate contracts, so that the construction
period can be reduced by about 4 to 6 months. But this
will mean additional mobilisation and de-mobilisation, site
installation, overhead and supervision /management costs,
which will push the capital cost higher by 5 to 10%.
Any
further division of the project, into smaller contracts/
componenets, may not be economical as the additional costs
mentioned in the earlier paragraph
would be higher compared to the advantages of savings in
project completion time and the resultant earlier start up of
the project
